Welcome

Hi. I'm Jeff.

As the title of this blog implies, I'm over 65 years old. If you are an older person perhaps you want some ideas for making better choices that effect your health.

What is Your Motivation?

Do you want to be able to stand up from sitting in a chair without pain, moaning, groaning, or having your joints pop?

Would you like to be able to get stuff out of the bottom cabinets painlessly and with no problems?

How would it effect your happiness if you had the mobility, flexibility, and endurance to play with your grandchildren or pets?

If you went to your doctor and found out that your blood pressure went down, how would you feel?

Is living independently important to you, or would you rather be on the fast track to a nursing home?

Do you need to lose some weight or to get into better shape?

This blog focuses on 1) eating right, 2) exercise, and 3) your outlook or attitude toward your health. You can think of that as The 3 Keys to Better Health.

Food

Notice I wrote "eating right" and not diet. No matter what you eat, that constitutes your "diet" whether you make healthy eating choices or not. Eating doesn't have to be boring to be healthy. In this blog I share how I maintain a healthy diet while eating food I like. Additionally, I post what I eat sometimes including some recipes. You can see what impact my choices have on my overall health.

Activity

Another important facet of this blog is exercise or physical activity. Staying healthy simply by eating right and doing nothing else is difficult if not impossible. If you regularly engage in physical activity, you will notice health benefits that augment your healthy eating choices. I show the different physical activities I do to stay active. You may find some inspiration that motivates you to make exercise a regular part of your daily routine.

Attitude

What makes change happen is your attitude toward healthy choices. Understanding your motivation, or lack thereof, goes a long way toward getting healthier. If you do not like your current state of health, you must make changes in how you think about food and exercise. The backdrop to the content of this blog is about choices and how those choices determine your state of health.

DISCLAIMER

You must consult with your doctor before you undertake any new eating or exercise program. Neither the owner nor any contributors to this blog are responsible for any adverse health impacts you may experience by implementing any of the ideas from this blog. Before you make any changes to your diet or physical activity you must consult with your doctor or you risk getting sick or hurting yourself.

Healthy Mindset

I was going to name this post, "The Psychology of Weight Loss" or "Diet Right" or something else. I chose the title I did because losing weight is not 'just' about dieting or eating right. While proper eating goes a long way toward a successful weight loss regime, adjusting what foods you eat probably won't get you where you want to be without more. When you hear someone explain why they quit their weight loss plan, what they're really saying comes down to this: "I'm not ready to commit to a healthy lifestyle." You will pretty much never someone say that though. You'll hear things like, "That program wasn't for me." Or, "I didn't like that program." Or, "I don't have the time to do that." Or, "That program costs too much." Or, "My spouse doesn't support my program." Or other "reasons." There are 100's of reasons people stop their programs. But the rea...
